Handheld Computing :D

  1. What are MID and UMPC devices? How do they differ. List atleast three examples of both types of devices & include images.
  A mid is a mobile device that provides internet ( wireless) They are designed to provide entertainment, information and for personal use, rather than for corporate use.  UMPC is a smaller form/ version of a pen computer.

Differences:


The utube video was to slow and didnt load, because of the slow internet download.

 


  1. Of the three handheld devices - Notebook, netbook & Ipad – which one would suit your needs and why?
Ipad.
The reason why is because i really like all the feature that the ipad has to offer. The multitasking, multimedia and different applications that apple has to offer.  
  1. If I was looking for a UMPC device with a screen size of 10 in or less, which would you recommend? Justify your choice.
Ipad.
THe reason why is because ipad is already small and most of it functions and applications allow for you to have a smalller scree.

·         Ease of use – Wix shows you how to set up your webpages and has a help page. It has heaps of deigner friendly functions and is it really easy to use once you know the basic of how Wix functions. You are able to create a menu system and work in an ordily fashion.




  Ease of use-  Nota land is easy to use and very handy, Nota land doesnt have a help funtion but the tools are really simple to use

    Broadband Research

    1.      What is broadband?
     broad band is telecommunication signal which has a high data rate connection to the Internet
    2.      Outline the methods of delivery of broadband (wireless, cable, ADSL and fibre)? Identify the speed of each method.
    wireless- The speed of the wifi connection really depends on the range of the modern to the wirless connection and how many gigabites you have when accessing the internet. (Traditional 802.11b was licensed for omnidirectional service spanning only 100–150 meters)
    cable-bit rates can be as much as 400 for business connections, and 100 for residential service
    ADSL- ADSL ranges from 256 kbit/s to 20 Mbit/s 
    fibre-  fiber-optic cables connected directly to buildings will deliver broadband speeds up to 100 megabits per second.
    3.      Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of each method.]

    Advantages:

    • ASDL broadband is much quicker
    •   Another advantage is that broadband uses signals that do not disturb the normal phone signals
    • Broadband is, in general, an 'always on' connection which means that it is always connected and ready to go.

    Disadvantages:

    • It requires a fixed physical connection between the source and destination and therefore does not support mobile applications.
    • It is usually costly to install.

    ADSL-

    Advantages:

    • ADSL has the advantage of a dedicated amount of bandwidth, but is affected by the distance from the Central Office.
     Fibre

    • ItIt can cover greater distances more reliably than wire
    • It can handle greater speeds, e.g. 1000Mbps and upwards
    • It can not be compromised by signal tapping

    Disadvantages:

    • It is not as robust as wire
    • It is more expensive to buy
    • It is more expensive to install
    • It has be installed by specialists
     
    Advantages:
